For Simply Being Myself

my bedroom curtains are the closest thing

to velvet theatre drapes

that drag across the stage floor

and leave the place for me to enter

into spotlights

which I use a bed lamp instead

it’s the closest thing to fame

all I’ve ever dreamed of

to be loved

for simply being myself

and leave me a place

to stand in front of spotlights

lit by a few

everything I do on stage is for you

but instead

the closest thing to being a star

is standing in front of a bed side lamp

that I’ve lit in the night

and when my mind starts to wonder

I simply dream of being loved

for simply being myself

anything can be a stage

if you so choose it to be

the bathroom is a good place to start

if you’re not sure where to go

although a bedroom mirror

can be good too

unless you’re sharing your space

then a duet is due

be careful if they have feelings for you

you need to be responsible 

for these things
